2. What could you have done more effectively this year?
3. What is your best skill when it comes to I.C.T?
4. What is the thing in I.C.T that you most need to work on?
5. Why was the digital citizenship topic so important? In terms of learning about cyber bullying, online predators, and digital identity theft etc..
6. How will you treat I.C.T differently...now that you have been made away of / researched these digital citizenship topics?
7. Any other comments you would like to add? (on topic!)

Charlotte Dawson speaks about cyber bullying

Charlotte Dawson speaking to Australia's 60 Minutes

   By 3 News online staff

TV host Charlotte Dawson has spoken out about the cyber bullying which led to her hospitalisation last week.
In an interview with Australia’s 60 Minutes, the Sydney-based celebrity said she feared for her own safety.
“I’ve never had death threats to this ferocity; I’ve never had a campaign to this ferocity. My tweets are usually about how old I am, how ugly I am or how I failed at my marriage, or how I can’t have children or how I’m a spinster, or how I’m plastic. It’s usually appearance stuff,” she said.
Ms Dawson also took the opportunity to respond to those claiming her suicide attempt was a ‘publicity attempt’.
“I was very drunk. I was extremely distraught, it just triggered that feeling of helplessness, it got to me, that got the better of me and they won,” she said.
“You do have to have a thick skin, and you do understand that no matter what you do, even if you are Mother Theresa, people are still going to hate you because they think you’re ugly or don’t like the sound of your voice. Sometimes, especially if people are wanting you to kill yourself, when you have previously tried to end your life, it’s very easy to feel like that’s exactly what you want to do.”
Melbourne's Monash University has suspended a staff member who joined the online vitriol, after they tweeted Ms Dawson saying "on behalf of NZ we would like you to please go hang yourself".
Dawson says these sorts of behaviours need to change.
“People need to be extremely responsible, if they can be when they are online,” she said.
“I think people diminish what bullying is. Bullying is extremely threatening behaviour that is constant and makes people feel threatened and terrified. I can’t think of anyone I have done that to.”
She says the words of her online bullies may come back to haunt them.
“People can be traced. I have contacted the police and had lengthy discussions with them today. They are using devices, mobile devices, iPads, computers in order to vilify and intimidate so there are consequences.”

Your poster must be informative, using points which we have discussed in class.  Refer to your comments on the blog from our previous class.... you are trying to inform and challenge students to make a change for the better... to become a good digital citizen!
Your poster MUST include the following:

Digital Citizenship #1 - Into

Welcome to your new unit on Digital Citizenship. During this unit we will be exploring the different areas of being a digital citizen.

We will be focusing on such areas as:
  • Digital Values
  • Online vs. Offline
  • Cyberbullying
  • Being cybersmart
  • Internet Safety

 Introduction:  Digital Values

Lesson Aim
You will consider how to transfer your offline values into the online world
Achievement Objectives
AO #1: to consider behaviour on the internet
AO#2: to begin to formulate ideas of what is needed to be a safe, secure and moral digital citizen

Firstly I want to ask you...

"Who is a good citizen?" . Talk to the person next to you and discuss an answer to share with the rest of the class.
 E.g. a good citizen is:
Honest, looks for ways to improve their community, helps others etc

"So who is a good digital citizen then?". Discuss in small groups/pairs.

Consider the following ...and discuss with your partner
* Using mobile phones in classrooms
* Visiting unknown websites included in emails from people you don’t know.
  * Forwarding on nasty texts about other pupils.
  * Forwarding on chain emails
  * Letting your mates know about a site that helps with subject coursework.
* Uploading photos of your mates on to a social network.
* Always accepting anyone who asks to be your buddy on instant messenger or a social network e.g. Myspace/Facebook.
* Ignoring messages from your anti virus saying that updates are available.
* Downloading an example of an "Excellence" essay from the a school resource website
* Having online discussions, with someone you don’t know, about private things.

COPY the points above and past them into a comment below this post
Then I want you to think seriously about how you feel about all of those comments and post your answers in the comment box. You can post anonymously if you want to - you don't have to attach your name to this post.

Next task....

* Watch the ONLINE vs. OFFLINE powerpoint and complete the activity

How to embed a video into your Powerpoint

It is very quick and easy in Powerpoint to insert an embedded video into your Powerpoint.

Go to the insert tab then to video on the far right of the ribbon.

There are two options.

Insert a saved file or insert one from the web.

If (as most would) you want to insert from the web you need to get the full embed code.

In Youtube you will find this under share - embed - old embed code.

Simply copy and past that into the box on the slide.

Troubleshooting for Ribbon Hero....

If Ribbon Hero v1.2 fails to load
The Ribbon Hero installer was changed between v1.0 and v1.2. We had some troubleshooting tips for v1.0 but those do now need to be updated.
If Ribbon Hero 1.2 fails to load after install there these are some things you can try.

1. In Office go to, File tab->[Word] Options->pick “Add-Ins” from the menu on the left, selected Manage “COM Add-ins”. Verify that you see ‘Microsoft Office Labs Ribbon Hero’ in the list. If not you will have to reinstall Ribbon Hero.

2. If Ribbon Hero is in the list but with no checkbox, try to check it. Close the dialog and open it again. Is Ribbon Hero still checked? If it is you are done and the Ribbon Hero button should now be on your home tab.

3. If Office keeps unchecking the Ribbon Hero there might be something wrong with your install. In the Ribbon Hero launcher we will try to correct the most common install issues. Try opening the Office application from the launcher and see it that fixes your issue.

4. If you are still not getting Ribbon Hero to load the next thing to try is to reinstall Ribbon Hero.

5. After re-install if you are still not getting Ribbon Hero to show up we currently do not have any good suggestions on what to try next. Sorry… You can take a look in the other Office applications. Ribbon Hero should show up in Word/PPT/Excel and OneNote. If Ribbon Hero does not show up in any of the applications the issue is with the machine or the setting on the machine. (Are you able to add any add-ins to Office?) If Ribbon Hero shows up in some applications but not others the install of Ribbon Hero itself was installed ok but the problem is related to registering Ribbon Hero with that Office application. Re trying the install with all the Office applications closed and the computer in a restated state might work. If not hopefully you have another machine where you can run Ribbon Hero on... We will keep looking at these installer issues.
